EMPIRICAL SOUNDS STRANGE DOESN'T IT

EMPIRICAL is a pseudonym used by David Wilkinson, a Scottish photographer based in Edinburgh.

It sounded better than David Wilkinson Photography which had far too many syllables for it to be used in everyday conversation and did not sound catchy when presented to test audiences.

David then started writing EMPIRICAL at the bottom of photographs.

Test audiences seemed to like the ambiguity.

To look at something Empirically is to define by observation, experience and experimentation. David liked how similar this was to his style of photography and chose to run with it, implementing a classic reportage style when shooting events, weddings and often experimenting with portraits.

David is a graduate of Edinburgh Napier University with a Bachelors degree in Photography and Film.
